I've been gardening for over 40 years and through those years my gardening style has changed. In the "Gardening with Granny" series I talk about gardening and what we can learn from plants. These are relatively short videos that I hope you enjoy and share with others.

Perhaps you have been challenged with something and can no longer garden like you used to. Perhaps you are a young gardener living in a space that doesn't allow you to "garden" like you'd like to...these videos may give you ideas on how you can plant where you are.

There is an energy in plants that we can benefit from and this too is discussed in these videos. Plants are very benefical. If we have them in our house they are helping to clean the air and give us oxygen. They add beauty to any decor.

Come plant with me in "Gardening with Granny".

Here is a DIY all natural bug spray that is safe for children (Never spray directly in face) I have reports that it works on mosquitoes, fleas, black flies and even deer flies. Let me know what you think.

All Natural Bug deterrant:
1/2 cup water (non chloronated)
1/2 cup witch hazel
1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin (can try without--but best if you have it)
1 Tablespoon vodka
put all of the above in a spray bottle that holds 10 ounces and shake well.
Now for the essential oils: (I use NSP but you use what you have)
30 drops Cedarwood essential oil
30 drops Geranium
10 drops of the following: Rosemary; Eucalyptus; Lavender; Lemongrass and Lemon
(You could try doubling up on Eucalyptus and Rosemary if you don't have lemongrass or substitute for Citronella)
Shake before each use and spray by spraying the air in front of you and walking into the cloud of spray and then turning to get all of you. Spray feet and back (as best you can).
The initial cost is expensive due to the essential oils but most 5ml bottles will contain 125 to 150 drops so you can make a lot of wonderful sprays, salves and lotions with them.
Have fun and be bug free!

Time to do some spring cleanup in the front yard and
prune the concord grapes.
