Good Morning!
Years ago the saying: “You are what you eat” was bandied about by those who related food to be important for good health. Fad diets and vegetarianism evolved out of this thinking but for the most part it made sense to eat foods that are fresh and wholesome. Europeans go to the market daily to get their fresh food for the day’s meals. Eating fresh picked lettuce and making a salad out of it right away is awesome. I love doing that from my garden. I grow several different kinds of lettuce to add color and flavor to my salads. I also will pick chive flowers and sprinkle them on to a salad.
In the last 50 years quality food has declined (unless you are buying from a farmer’s market, grow your own or buy organic) and obesity rates have risen. If you do buy organic most of it is shipped across many states before you can purchase it. I love buying from the farmer’s market and it is now in full swing: fresh spinach, lettuce, radishes and many more foods are available right now. Soon there will be an incredible variety to choose from. Find out from the farmer when they spray and what they use if it isn’t organic. Often times the farmer uses natural fertilizers and pesticides but can’t afford to get the organic status.
We’ve been lied to by those who claim to be experts: low fat, cholesterol free, no salt, and low protein. These so-called experts have led us to rates of heart disease, cancer and diabetes that have been non-stop in cause of death. And humans are dying from these conditions at younger and younger ages. We’ve been told that eggs are bad for us. Not so if you are eating farm fresh eggs from chickens that are raised free range. These eggs have amazing benefits and are delicious. The same goes for cattle that have been grass fed. This meat is rich in Omega 3 essential fats our body needs for healthy nervous system and brain.
So, we need to pay attention to what we are putting in our mouths! Nutritionally dense foods that are not processed should be our mainstay. We can turn ill health around quickly when we give our body the tools it needs to create heathy cells and repair damaged ones. Our body craves healthy foods that have complete nutrition and not something where the goodness has been stripped away so that it can stay on a shelf longer.
Junk food will not give us optimum health. It really isn’t fast when you have to wait in a line at the drive-thru. Fast is eating food raw or lightly steamed. Most of my dinners are made from fresh food and I can cook them in less than a half hour. Steaming veggies only takes between 12-15 minutes. Don’t microwave your food! There is a lot of scientific evidence that when you microwave food it changes the energy that food originally had in it. If you understand how a microwave heats, you can easily understand this to be true.
Try foods you may have thought you didn’t like by changing the way it was prepared. You can grate carrots into a spaghetti sauce if you don’t like carrots…you won’t even know it’s there. I blend some of my cooked veggies and add that to soups as a base. You can add Chia to salads or other food for added benefit. There are many ideas out there and many cookbooks that will help you make food look appetizing and delicious. Eating for A’s is an old book that I used to use a lot. Be creative and get the children involved.

Good Morning!
Suzanne Somers in a recent interview with Dr. Joseph Mercola stated that when she went through radiation therapy to kill off cancer, the radiation wiped out her ability to make Hydrochloric Acid for life. This is a major problem for the digestive system and most people aren’t aware of the havoc this can create in the body.
The Chinese relate the stomach to the Fire element. When the flame goes cold, death follows. Hydrochloric Acid keeps the flame healthy. It is necessary to break down proteins into amino acids for muscle strength. That means the heart as well. It also is a big part of calcium metabolism. One of the biggest role it has is to kill off microbes that may attack the blood stream.
Without a good pH in the stomach food will not break down in a timely manner. This allows the food to rot and create gas. When people have gas or indigestion they take acid blockers. This doesn’t make sense! It isn’t too much acid that is causing the problem; in fact it is too little acid allowing food to putrefy. The gas is actually the fermentation occurring in the digestive system. This will cause bloating and even push undigested food up through the esophagus.
Digestion is the key to good health. We take nutrients in and digestion metabolizes them and makes them into what the body needs for energy production, repair and building of the body. Without a good supply of HCl your stomach cannot maintain the pH acidity it needs for proper function. So much is said about creating an alkaline body but without an acid stomach you can drink all the alkaline water you can but not achieve an alkaline body because you don’t have enough acid in your stomach!
Dr. Nickolas Gonzalez treats his patients diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer with protease enzymes and having a near 100% rate of success. Enzymes are the key to good digestion and I have been using them for over 30 years with meals and occasionally in between for different health reasons. As we age we lose the ability to produce enzymes and therefore need them on a daily and usually with each meal basis.
If you’ve ever had radiation therapy you need to begin taking an enzyme with HCl (like NSP’s Food Enzymes) with each meal. I prefer people taking Food Enzymes after a few bites so that the enzymes have something to help digest. Make sure you eat slowly and drink as little as possible with meals. There are various videos on the internet to help you understand better the role of HCl and how important it is.
People with band surgery will also be affected by low HCl production. Taking enzymes with meals will help break down food so that the body can get the nutrients required to function properly even though it is limited. Taking a full spectrum enzyme that includes pepsin, bile salts and other ingredients will help in so many factors. Enzymes are not probiotics. Probiotics are necessary in the small and large intestine to help with post digestion and immune response. Many people confuse probiotics as digestive supports when in fact they are not the same thing as enzymes. Enzymes should be taken with meals for digestion and probiotics should be taken away from meals so that they bypass the acid that will kill off good microbes. I usually take my probiotics first thing in the morning and/or before bedtime.

Spring is the time where the weather seems more volatile than other seasons. Thunderstorms, Hurricanes, Tornadoes and floods come to mind. All of these weather situations can contribute to a power outage. This can cause multiple inconveniences and even disaster. You may have already experienced some of these occurrences. I know we’ve gone a week some time without power and it really creates a challenge.
If you run out of energy it can be either an inconvenience or a disaster. Many people think they can boost their energy by taking an energy drink or stimulant of some sort. This only kicks the adrenals into action. Drinking a 5 hour energy drink or other stimulant drinks can seriously damage your nervous system. It can cause irregular blood pressure, flushing, irregular heartbeat, visual disturbances etc. Here is a link to the pdf that states adverse events reported. The long term effects of this solution can ruin your health.
True energy comes from a rested body. If you have trouble sleeping or have interrupted sleep, your body cannot heal properly from the stress of the day. You wake up exhausted. The interruption may be due to the adrenals being stimulated to the point they cannot calm down. Your body is on high alert. This can cause burn out. Another name for burn out is Post Traumatic Stress disorder.
Tonic herbs help to restore strength to the Adrenals and nervous system. These are called adaptogens and there are even vitamins that support nourishing the body. Adaptogens such as Siberian ginseng, ashwaganda, Astragalus and suma are a few herbs that nourish the body. Some of these herbs are included in a formula called 5-HTP Power. This formula’s main ingredient includes the seeds from the Griffonia plant. In Ghana where the plant is grown, natives have been using the herb for centuries to enhance energy and thinking.

Good Morning!
We were all so anxious to see spring arrive! The crocus, snow drops, Hyacinth, Lily of the Valley, and even some of the lilacs are gone. As each bloom replaces another, it reminds me that within each season there are flowers to be enjoyed for only a limited time. I’ve learned to revel in the moment.
We are often so caught up in the past or the future that we forget the now is fleeting and soon it too will be the past. The present is the only thing we have control over. Why is it we spend more time on either the past or future? What is done is done. We can never go back and change it. We can learn from it but many of us keep repeating it to see if we can do it right. It’s like watching the same movie over and over and anticipating a different ending…it isn’t going to happen.
Do you have events that keep repeating inside your head? Do you have trouble relaxing? Rethinking events will often keep us from falling asleep or enjoying what’s right in front of us. They make us tense and unhappy. Essential oils are very good at moving stuck energy. I especially like to blend them with our flower essences. One of my favorite recipes for helping to move stuck energy is Peppermint, Lemon and Distress Remedy.
Peppermint oil is very invigorating and is especially good for the brain. Peppermint essential oil has been shown to lift the mood and clear the mind. It has pain relieving properties so it works very well with Distress Remedy which helps people deal with shock and trauma. They can be used together during the onset of trauma or when reliving the event in our minds. Adding Lemon helps to replace the negative event with positive energizing vibrations that can lift the mood and get you into a better place.
The recipe is one dropper of Distress Remedy to 5 drops Peppermint essential oil ( I love NSP’s Authentic oils) to 10 drops of Lemon essential oil (one drop is equal to 20 lemons!). Add this to a 2 ounce spray bottle filled with purified water. The glycerin in the Distress Remedy helps to break down the molecules of essential oil and emulsify it in the water. Water and oil do not mix well so when you add glycerin each oil molecule breaks up into hundreds of smaller particles that can then blend well with the water and other essential oils to become a cohesive and synergistic remedy.
After you have mixed everything together, shake well and spray! It is heavenly. The olfactory senses will pick up the scent you have created and your body simply can’t help itself. You feel lighter and more energetic. You can spray yourself (close your eyes); spray the area around you; but especially spray your pulse at your wrists and then rub them together. Within seconds the vibrational energy is pulsing through your blood moving out toxic thoughts. Be sure to label it so you know what it is and write the recipe down so you can make more of it.
The same recipe can be made in a roll-on. Put the ingredients (all except the water) in a roll-on bottle (can be purchased through NSP) and add some of the Carrier Oil (it is non-scented so it picks up the scents you add to it). Put the ball closer on and make sure it snaps in place. Put the screw top on and then roll the bottle back and forth warming it in your hands to mix the oil—turn it after about 10 rolls and then roll for ten more times. Your recipe is now blended and ready for use. When you apply this to your pulse points it will last much longer and you will be able to lift your wrist to your nose and smell for about ½ to one hour before reapplying.

Be fully aware of your now. Take some deep breaths. Look around you and appreciate the beauty of the moment. Yes, it is good to anticipate and plan but don’t live there. Good Morning!
I generally have a good positive outlook. I often try to see another’s point of view. Sometimes it is more difficult to put yourself in someone else’s place but if you have a basis or understanding of their view, it becomes easier. Not unlike the picture of “a vase or two faces”.
The black on white is easier for some to see both and for others the white on black version is easier. If you notice what you need to do is kind of go off focus to see the opposite view. Your first sight will be one or the other. So, for example if your first view is the two faces, you have to change your focus for the vase to appear and then magically you can quickly go from one to the other.
This is an easy training experience to help you quickly change your view so that you become flexible. The next step is to practice this with everyday situations. If you want to see your child’s or your spouse’s view so that understanding can be achieved, you need to see the situation from their perspective. This is more difficult because it involves emotions.
A flat picture doesn’t have emotions. We can’t always determine what the emotional impact of a situation may be for another. This is where we have to ask them to share their feelings so that understanding can be reached.
Seeing another’s point of view gets easier when we are open (don’t keep trying to explain our position until they are done explaining theirs). Arguments are generally an inability to understand both sides. If both parties feel that they are understood, usually a situation can be resolved quickly. This too takes practice.
Sometimes feeling understood and yet agreeing to disagree is where you have to end the discussion. You could agree that more information is needed in order to come to solution. If the goal is to be able to agree, than this is a goal met. No matter you don’t agree on the action to take…sometimes inaction has to be agreed upon until moving forward in a united direction can be accomplished.
Parenting is all about having an agreement on what the goal is and trying to achieve understanding between each other. When two people love each other and feel safe that the other person is trying to understand their position it makes solution easier. Knowing that the other person cares really matters. So, it begins with Caring and Loving and adding respect to the mix. If you come at a challenge armed with these three emotions you can usually resolve most anything.
Sometimes we need to be reminded of that. When life seems tough and all we see is disappointment or failure, it is difficult to view what else is in the picture. Changing our focus takes a huge effort. If we can voice this to someone who loves, respects and cares about us and ask for them to share a different view perhaps we can then go “off focus” and see what else is in the picture.
Going back to the “vase or two faces” picture; the first time you viewed it you may have needed some coaching on see here the nose and her lips? And then you have to go off focus so that you can set aside your original view and try to see a different perspective. The one the other person is attempting to show you. By setting aside your focus and looking at what they are showing you it will be easier to see their view. The object is not to convince them of your view but to know that there are two views and each of you, if you are flexible enough, could see both of them.
Most of the time we just want to prove our view is the right view and not see the other view. This only creates frustration. It doesn’t give us a winning feeling. A winning feeling is when agreement is achieved. So arm yourself with understanding and be flexible. The goal may only be that you feel better about the situation. Keep the goal in mind.
Vison involves close at hand, and gradually moving out until the distance where you cannot see beyond. Many views are in between close and far. If you want someone to see your view sometimes you have to guide them through what you are seeing so that agreement can be achieved.
I hope this has created better insight in clarifying communication while achieving a common goal. Keep in mind that your view may not be the only view.

Good Morning!
Have you recently had a CT scan? Dental xray, chest xray or mammogram? These tests expose you to radiation and what you may not know is, radiation is cumulative. Here is an interactive chart that calculates your specific dose of radiation based on your area; lifestyle, etc. http://www.ans.org/pi/resources/dosechart/ Spacing when you have testing can be an option. But the most control you have is the choice you make about microwaving food; cell phone, computer and TV usage and smoking. Yes, I bet that gave you pause. It asks that question on the above interactive chart.
There are ways you can minimize the effects of exposure but first you need to ask your doctor: “If I were your sibling, would you still recommend this scan?” Many doctors are caught between a rock and a hard place. They want to make sure they do not get sued and they want to do what is best for you. Unfortunately they don’t know when you last went to the dentist or, had some other x-ray screening before they recommend a CT or PET scan. The doctor has to weigh the amount of information he/she will get from the scan vs the effects the scan will have on your body.
Keeping your immune system healthy is the utmost in whether the effects will be minor or considerable. Taking antioxidants in plentiful supply every day will help you protect your body against everyday radiation exposure from cell phones, TVs, Computers, microwaves and microwave towers.
If you live near a Microwave tower or close to a power line or station, your immune system is working hard to keep you safe. Sleeping with your cell phone or computer within a short distance of your body affects the immune system and may even interrupt your sleep cycle. Research shows that even if these are “off” they are still emitting radiation. Give yourself a break every hour if you work on a computer. Get up and walk away from your desk, take some deep breaths and go outside if you can. Even if it is for 5 minutes every hour it can help your immune system. Also, drink some chlorophyll water during the day will help the blood detoxify.
Take your cell phone off of your body and find safer places to put it so that those signals your phone is connecting with are not directed at you. These wireless signals and electrical magnetic waves can cause disruption to your own electrical field of energy. This can drain you of energy and also compromise your immune system. Start your day with a healthy 1 or 2 ounce dose of Thai Go which is a powerful antioxidant drink that can help your body detoxify from radiation.
Vitamin C is also a good way to eliminate radiation. If you are having a CT scan make sure you are doing several things that support detoxification; drink half your body weight in ounces of water and add some chlorophyll to some of it; take some immune supports like Immune Stimulator and protect your liver with Milk Thistle. It is better to take precautions than to be sorry later you didn’t. Also, for 10 days after the scan do an Enviro Detox plan.
Enviro-Detox is a great supplement that helps the body get rid of toxins that are found in our environment. This is especially important for those who work in a toxic place such as a beauty salon, garage, paint or hardware store where toxins are stored. Things like using pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer treatments on your lawn are toxic to your skin and respiratory system. The best thing is to avoid using them unless they are approved by the Organic Consumers Association.
Taking Milk Thistle Combination before and after a scan or radiation treatment can be very good as part of your immune defense. When you have to have a procedure done have someone come with you so they can ask questions. This is especially so if you are going to be given anesthesia. If you check out the disclosure form you sign before any surgical procedure you give your doctor and his/her associates the right to make choices based on what they think is necessary. They will do all they can to save your life but you need to make sure that your life is protected from cumulative harm. It helps to have someone with a clear head with you when they want to do tests that aren’t necessary. Half of the dose of radiation we absorb in our lifetime comes from medical testing.
The other concern is the effect on our friendly bacteria that resides in the gut. The harsh testing kills off this good bacteria and then if you receive an antibiotic…it’s double jeopardy. Taking probiotics on a daily basis away from food can help your immune system. The microbiome is a brand new science that is stating, a healthy gut is paramount to good health. One of the ways you can protect it is by eating fermented foods and staying away from sugar. Another is by taking probiotics before bed and upon rising.
As you can see, there are many ways you can choose to support better immune health. Each week integrate one of the above suggestions until you feel phenomenal.

Good Morning!
There are certain things we take for granted and certain behaviors we expect. When driving you expect people to drive on the right side of the street (unless you’re in Europe); you expect them to obey traffic signals; drive with lights on when it is dark etc. You expect certain voice tones like speaking softly when appropriate or loudly whatever the occasion requires. In general, we expect a certain amount of courtesy (please and thank you) and you expect them to do you no harm. If we are aware of our circumstances we can often determine whether we should be mindful of harm but occasionally the unexpected happens.
Do you have health insurance or accident coverage in case your car is damaged? Most people do. And now with Obamacare everyone has to have health insurance. Health insurance is really a misnomer because it doesn’t provide health it provides care when you are sick. Nobody wants to be sick but we know occasionally it happens.
Do you prepare for the unexpected? Some people take self-defense courses and others take classes in first aid. If you were a scout some of these precautions were discussed and you learned some techniques such as how to start a fire without matches. But, how many people have no idea what to do in case of an emergency? What do you do in case of a fire? Have you had fire drills at home? Do your children know what to do? Do you have caricatures of how many people and/or pets that live in the household posted on the front door so firemen know how many to look for?
How many people would know how to survive for even a couple of days without the basic needs we now take for granted? Besides stored food and water, if someone was injured, would you know what to do to stop the bleeding? Treat shock? Or, even first aid basics?
Unpredictable weather, loss of power, or even situations you may find yourself in where you need to immediately take action to save your life occur. It is in those times that you need to have a kit that you can go to that is already made up for emergencies. Not just band aids but maybe a burn cream or antiseptic. These natural first aids can be made ahead of time and can cost so little and do so much when needed.
Do you drive without a spare tire? Do you know how to change a flat? The American Red Cross says that every adult will have 5-6 emergencies during their lifetime…how you prepare for emergencies will determine whether these emergencies are life threatening or not. In most disasters what kills people the most is dealing with the shock and not supporting the immune system. We have some wonderful natural remedies such as Distress Remedy that should be in every emergency kit including your car. It deals well with helping a person regain control during trauma.
We have some beautiful essential oil blends that can be used as antiseptics, calming and antimicrobial. Making a spray or roll-on and labeling it for what it can be used for could save a person from shock and infections. You could make a spray that can clean wounds that are bleeding and then put a gauze pad over it…but do you have that all together in a kit that could easily be grabbed and taken to a place of safety? That kit should include a flash light and a supply of drinking water and perhaps a blanket. There should also be a plastic that can be used to protect against rain.
Do you have some food that you could easily eat to keep up strength that doesn’t require cooking? The Red Cross suggests at least three days’ worth. There is a website called: http://www.ready.gov/build-a-kit where you can find information on basic survival kits. If you want to be the community go-to person they have classes and sign up availability. If you just want to be safe and have knowledge for you and your family start somewhere. I will soon have the class I do on May 9th available on my website and you can listen to it.
Whether it is a box of band aids, a tube of Silver gel and a bottle of vitamin C…you should start somewhere to give you peace of mind during a crisis.

Herbal eGram #709 Bergamot
Good Morning!
Among the citrus types of essential oil, one of my favorite oil is Bergamot (Citrus bergamia Risso). It has a very uplifting and light scent. I like to use it in my shower gel in the winter to help me feel uplifted. There is some concern about using citrus oils topically as it may make your skin more sun-sensitive. Medications such as Ciprofloxacin (Cipro), norfloxacin (Noroxin), lomefloxacin (Maxaquin), ofloxacin (Floxin), and levofloxacin (Levaquin) to name a few also create photo-sensitivity and may contribute to easier sunburn.
I’ve been using Bergamot for years in my practice to assist people move negative energy. When used in a roll-on blend on the sternum it will even protect you from the negative energy of those near you (or that you live with or even sleep with). Bergamot is uplifting and can help move energy that drags you down. Using it in a bath (10-15 drops in a carrier of Sunshine Concentrate, not only makes a great bubble bath but can help you get rid of stuck negative energy. In a study published in the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, Italian researchers have proven bergamot essential oil's amazing antifungal properties when used as a topical remedy for infections brought by candida fungus strains. So it would be a great way to get rid of any fungus as well. You can add Tea Tree oil (5-6) drops for added antifungal properties. If you are going to use it on the skin you need to make sure that it is cut with a carrier 5 drops to one ounce of carrier (aloe or other oils). Essential oils are extremely potent!
All of Nature’s Sunshine’s oils are Authentic –this means they come from the area and region of origin (where the therapeutic evidence is based). Some of the oil companies use Bergamot grown in other countries and it doesn’t have the same beneficial constituents as it should. True Bergamot comes from Italy. Just like fine wines. The region can make a huge difference in getting the constituents and quality for therapeutic benefit.
If you’ve ever shopped for oranges you know that even in a grocery store there are many varieties: Navel, Mandarin, Clementine, Blood, Valencia etc. They all have similar but different qualities. When you are aiming at therapeutic, you want something that is going to work as the science states. Many companies let their suppliers determine the quality (are you kidding me…Fox guarding the Henhouse!) They are only after the sale. Most companies do not have a certification of origin…NSP demands it.

This amazing blend is full of antioxidants rich in supporting Cardiovascular as well as blood sugar along with maintaining healthy metabolism. In general, essential oils should not be ingested. There are new testing procedures now available to determine oxidized LDL which is the dangerous cholesterol.
Your body needs cholesterol and when it is too low your brain suffers and you cannot make hormones like testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and many others. Cholesterol is needed by the brain. Being a “fat-head” is important if you want to be able to enjoy old age with all of your mental faculties. The problem is not total cholesterol but oxidized cholesterol. If you are on a statin you need to make sure you are taking CoQ10 as the heart gets robbed of this very important nutrient when taking statin medications. Now NSP has CoQ10 (easily absorbed) 100mg. Taking two a day is what Dr. Perlmutter recommends to make sure your body has the antioxidants needed for healthy brain and heart function.
For essential oil support in thinking and remembering use in a roll-on filled 2/3 full with the new unscented carrier oil: 7 drops of Bergamot and 3 drops of peppermint. Warm by rolling the roll-on bottle between your hands for quicker release of the oil; then apply to the temples and back of neck. It is wonderful!! Even young people can use this blend for helping to study.
